Karen DiCrecchio, a mom of two, plant mom of three, style guru, and full-time content creator is transforming her mid-century modern fixer upper in New Jersey into a forever home. See how she manages to incorporate every family member’s style into their busy home.

Tell us a little about yourself and who you share your home with.

Two kids, one husband and a ton of noise! I am a corporate fashion professional turned stay at home mom and wouldn’t have it any other way. I share my home with the people I love most and focus on making the house we live in an actual home. I have a 5-year-old daughter who is the epitome of girly and an almost 3-year-old son who is rough and tough. I want each family member to have a voice when it comes to how we style the home and have their own personalities shine through in each space.

What’s your day-to-day life like?

Each day could be different. For the most part, our days start with the morning school hustle. Getting two kids under the age of 6 out the door is quite the task, but we have a fool-proof routine now. I schedule my days around my favorite gym classes and blog mostly in the afternoons and at night. When the day calms down after school and work, we like to put on music, make dinner and relax around our house.

Tell us about your home.

This home is the third we have owned together. Many people have what they call their “forever home,” and we are making this one ours. It started out as a dark 1960’s fixer-upper, and we are slowly transforming it room by room into a cozy and bright family home filled with mid-century modern designs and vintage familial touches.

What inspires you?

When it comes to a home, I am inspired by things that have meaning. I like to do my best to add some whimsy personal touches around the house, so, when someone comes for a visit, it feels like it belongs to us. I am not one to flash personal photos on every inch of the home. Instead, I like to take a piece of the past or present and integrate it into our everyday décor.

Tell us about your favorite room.

The dining space is my new favorite. It is the most recent room we have done and the least used. We have been trying to fill it with homey touches, so we feel like it is a space we can gather in as a family. I do not want a “formal” dining room where my kids feel like they cannot enter it. We added the record player in here, so we can enjoy some music after dinner and step away from TV and other electronics. My husband and I like to pour a drink and share some music with our littles and engage in a fun mini dance party.

How many houseplants do you have?

Currently 3!

Why do you like having plants in your home?

I like the life they bring to a space. My style and home décor are very neutral. I am not one for bright splashes of color when it comes to accessories, so a vibrant plant adds that splash to break up the neutrals and also adds that fresh feel of bringing the outdoors inside.

What’s your favorite plant and why?

I love my snake plant (Sansevieria). I have had it the longest, and he has hung on with me for over four years. It is very low maintenance, which is a must for me. New to my crew is the Bird of Paradise, and it is gorgeous with its rich and shiny leaves. I love the way it sprawls over the all-glass bar cart. It really livens up the space and makes a formal room feel homier.
