Build Your Own Living Tablescape this Holiday

Whether you’re hosting a large celebration or a quaint gathering of friends and family, a living tablescape can make your holidays extra festive this year. Here’s how to create a dreamy tablescape to last throughout the season.

Choose a Lively Centerpiece

Adorn your holiday spread with potted plants that you can use throughout the holidays. Group plants together to create a centerpiece or scatter them around the table for a lively display. We recommend keeping your plants on the smaller side so you don’t create a barrier between guests. Our Begonia and Tough Stuff Collections are the perfect size — they’ll add a touch of green to your tablescape that you can continue to use as home decor after the season is over.

Don’t Be Afraid to Add Color

Choose plants with colorful leaves or flowers, like the Red Prayer Plant, Bromeliad Collection, or White Anthurium, to really make your tablescape stand out. Scatter various types of gourds, accent with holly stems, or string together cranberries for added festive hues. Colorful candles can help set the mood, too.

Enhance your Tablescape

Embellish your display with fresh greenery. Replace your tired table runner with sprigs of eucalyptus and boughs of evergreen. Not only is live greenery more sustainable, but the trimmings will also fill your space with the scent of holiday cheer.

Sit Back, Relax, and Admire Your Work

A beautiful tablescape sets the scene for a lovely and lively “natafelen,” no matter how small the gathering. Natafelen is quite possibly our favorite Dutch expression. A similar English phrase doesn’t exist, but literally translated, natafelen means “after table-ing.” You know that moment – where you’ve just finished the meal, and everyone is sitting around the table chatting, sipping wine, and enjoying each others’ company and conversation? That’s natafelen.
