Plant Life Series: A Warm Mid-Century Modern Home in Arizona
At Bloomscape, we’re here to help you strengthen your relationship with plants—it’s all part of our mission to bring gezellig to the world. And we love seeing how real-life families live with plants in their home. In our Plant Life Series, we’ll be taking a peek inside inspiring, plant-loving homes from around the country.
Mary Interiano, a lover of all things vintage, shares her mid-century modern Arizona home us. We’re obsessed with her harmonious use of color, retro finds, and plants.
1. Tell us a little about yourself and who you share your home with.
My husband, our three kiddos and our rescue pup, Astrid live here in our desert abode. I have always enjoyed interior design and find styling our home to be a fun, creative outlet. I love finding and collecting unique, vintage décor and our home is a representation of these special pieces.
2. Tell us about your home.
Our home is a charming, updated mid-century ranch with an open floor plan.
3. What inspires you and how does your home reflect that?
I am inspired by cafes, boutique hotels, and botanical gardens—especially as I travel. I really appreciate the feeling that a beautiful aesthetic can evoke. I strive to add character to our home and create corners where you can relax after a long day with a glass of wine and a good book.
4. What’s your favorite room and why?
My favorite room is our living room. It is a place to relax where everyone hangs out, where we have good conversations with friends and where we enjoy Friday night movie nights as a family.
5. How many houseplants do you have?
I currently have 30 houseplants, but I’m constantly adding new plant babies. It’s starting to get a little crowded, but I love it!
6. Why do you like having plants in your home?
I really enjoy plants because they bring so much life to a space! I remember growing up and visiting my Grandma who was also a plant lover. Her home was the most welcoming space and I believe plants really do make a space more inviting.
7. What’s your favorite plant and why?
My favorite plant is definitely the Rubber Tree! They are so beautiful and sculptural! They are also fairly low maintenance—which is always a plus.
8. What tips do you have for living with plants?
If you are just starting your plant journey, begin with a couple and learn all about them. ZZ Plants and Snake Plants are a great place to start because they are very forgiving. Also, reach out when you have a question or if your plant is looking unhealthy. Instagram has been such a great resource for me as a plant parent. Don’t be discouraged if you have a casualty; it is all a part of the process and the fun part is learning as you go!
