At Bloomscape, we’re here to help you strengthen your relationship with plants—it’s all part of our mission to bring gezellig to the world. Eunice Hernandez (@idrinkandigrowthings), a plant-lover and mother of two, invites us into her modern bohemian home where she beats the cold winters of Chicago with hundreds of houseplants! Get inspired by modern decor with boho flair and her impressive houseplant family!
Tell us a little about yourself and who you share your home with.
I share my home with my husband and two kids—both boys, my oldest is 5 and youngest is 3—we are from Chicago.
Tell us about your home.
We bought our house two years ago and when we were looking for a house I knew I wanted one that had a skylight and a sunroom! We were fortunate enough to find one with both a beautiful skylight in the kitchen and a sunroom which I use during the summer to place all my plants.
How would you describe your style?
Modern Bohemian Decor
What inspires you and how does your home reflect that?
I get my inspiration pretty much everywhere I go from a coffee house to endless pictures on Pinterest.
Tell us about your favorite room.
It has to be my sunroom I wanted to create a peaceful place for me where I can just relax, drink my coffee in the morning or read a book in the afternoon.
How many houseplants do you have?
Around 170 I stopped counting after 150!
Why do you love having plants in your home?
Winters can be long in Chicago, and I love nature! Unfortunately, during the winter months, everything pretty much dies due to the snow. That’s why I love having a lot of plants in my house. Plus, plants make me happy! Taking care of my plants after a long day of work relaxes me.
What’s your favorite plant and why?
What tips do you have for decorating with plants?
Do your research before buying a plant. If you want to start a collection, start with an easy plant like the Pothos, so you don’t become discouraged.
